Values are often suggested as a reason for pro-environmental behavior, and it is very common to hear calls for “value changes” as a way to better protect the environment. There are strong traditions of research on values in the social sciences and philosophy. Unfortunately, these traditions, in social psychology, experimental psychology, economics, and ethics, tend to be isolated from one another. Our group conducts research on the relationships among values, beliefs, norms and behavior. While we work primarily in the social psychological tradition, we also try to reflect insights from other approaches. Please click here for a list of our papers on this subject.
